We are delighted to announce that the second meeting of the Over the Rainbow LGBT dementia support and advocacy project will be held at PACE on Friday 27 June from 1pm – 4pm. Refreshments and support to travel to the meeting will be provided.
The Over the Rainbow project is in partnership with the University of Worcester Association for Dementia Studies, Birmingham LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing and PACE Health London. We know that LGBT people with dementia are especially marginalised communities and that the issues impacting LGBT people with dementia are under represented in general dementia groups and charities (Alzheimer’s Society, 2013). What haven’t been heard, to date, are the voices of LGBT people with dementia themselves.
The Over the Rainbow project offers: 1) An opportunity for LGBT people with dementia and carers to come together in safe spaces; 2) The facilitation of intergenerational dialogue, support and advocacy; 3) The voices of LGBT people with dementia to be heard (through ongoing ‘dementia rainbow friends’ buddying, and online representation).
The project is funded by DEEP (Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project), which is led by Innovations in Dementia in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation. DEEP is funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Comic Relief. The project has received ethical approval from the University of Worcester Research Ethics Committee.
If you would like to come to the meeting, or you would like further information, please contact Liz Peel on email@example.com Twitter: @ProfPeel or phone Michelle King on 01905 855362.
